Common Dryer Repair Issues and How We Fix Them

1

Your dryer makes loud noises

A dryer consists of many moving parts. When functioning normally, the moving parts do what they’re supposed to without getting in each other’s way. However, when something goes wrong, one part may obstruct the functioning of another and, in the process, generate a lot of loud and strange noises (such as humming, squeaking, and/or thumping).

Often these sounds are generated by broken glides. Noises can also be caused by faulty drum bearings, support rollers and shaft, a faulty drive belt, idler pulley, blower wheel or baffle. Continuing to use your dryer when it's making loud noises could cause the dryer to break fully, which could be a more expensive repair bill. If your dryer is making noises, even if it seems to be functioning, it's important to get help from a trained appliance repair person.

To fix the problem, our technician will listen to the noise, carefully inspect the drum support roller, blower wheel and other internal parts, and identify the root cause of the issue. If we detect a broken component, we’ll be happy to either repair or replace it. We'll help you decide which option makes sense for your dryer.

The dryer doesn’t turn on

There’s nothing more frustrating than a dryer that doesn’t turn on. Sometimes this happens because of a tripped circuit breaker, a damaged power cord, or a dysfunctional dryer door switch. If this is happening to your dryer, check to be sure that the circuit breaker hasn't been tripped and the unit is plugged in. Assuming that you can determine that the dryer itself is getting power, contact the iFix Appliances team!

Our technician will identify the problem and provide solutions. Don't try to fix this problem yourself or take your dryer apart, as you could permanently damage the electrical components. Leave the work up to us for guaranteed results!

Wrinkled clothing even after multiple tumbles

Your dryer's tumble feature helps remove wrinkles from clothing, but when your clothes come out wrinkled even after multiple tumbles, this could indicate a problem with the heating element. A damaged heating element can be a very serious problem.

The issue could also be something as minor as putting in a lot of clothes at once. Start by cutting your load of laundry in half and see if this helps. If your clothes come out wrinkle-free and fluffy, then this may have been the problem. Stop overloading your dryer!

If the problem is indeed the heating element, you need professional help. iFix Appliances technicians will measure how much heat is being produced by the element, and if it’s not at the desired level, we’ll be happy to perform the necessary tweaks that it takes for the element to be working correctly again. If your dryer will cost more to repair than replace, we'll let you know that as well.
